 Calibration of Infrared Spectrophotometer

 

1.0  PURPOSE 
   The purpose of the standard operating procedure is to provide guidelines for calibration of Infrared Spectrophotometer.

2.0  SCOPE   

   The scope of this standard operating procedure includes calibration of Infrared

    Spectrophotometer.

4.0 PROCEDURE

Infra red spectrophotometer is a technique used for identifying the organic compounds.

Control the humidity of the environment within the range of 40 to 50% RH at 25^oC.

Switch on the instrument and observe that it initialises at 4018 ±1cm^-1. 

4.1 Standard Required For Calibration:

       Standard Polystyrene Film

4.2 Calibration:

Using the stipulated operating conditions run in the infra-red spectra of the reference polystyrene film supplied with the instrument.  

All the significant or principal peaks in the spectrum obtained should be at the same wavelength as that of the standard reference graph and should correspond to within 0.5% of the wave number scale. The relative sizes of the bands should be concordant in the two spectra.
