SOP on Disposal of Medium

1.0 Purpose: This SOP describe a procedure for the disposal of the medium. 

2.0 Scope: This SOP applies to the microbiology department staff. 

3.0 Responsibility: Quality Control Microbiologist to ensure that the procedure is followed.

4.0 Materials and Equipment: As required

5.0 Procedure:

5.1 Person who handles the medium should wear mask and gloves.

5.2 Collect the media in a conical flask, add water and boil on a gas burner for 15 minutes. Cool the flask and adjust the pH 7.0    0.2.

5.3 Autoclave the medium at 15 lb / in2 for 30 minutes.

5.4 When the medium is cool, Dispose off the medium in to the effluent treatment plant and then drain out.
